MANFRED WAFFENDER TEACHING
In my job as Professor for Dramatic Composition in Media at the Institute For Music And Media at the Robert Schumann University of Music and Media I initiated a module called Sinnesbildung (sensory awareness). It is an integral part of the Bachelor of Music and Media program. The goal of the program is to enable students and graduates to work in a wide range of professional positions within the music and media industry.

Over a period of two semesters the module offers four different courses:
- psychology of perception
- sensory awareness
- Feldenkrais lessons
- visualization of music

The intention of the courses is to
-  raise awareness
- broaden the capabilities of sensory perception
- enhance the narrative competence in the field of visual and acoustic perception.

Apart from beeing in charge of the module, I teach the sensory awareness course. It is inspired by the works of artists, scientists and teachers like  John Cage, Charlotte Selver, Helen Keller, Raymond Murray Schafer, E. Bruce Goldstein, Maurice Merlau-Ponty, Oliver Sacks, Moshe Feldenkrais, Diane Ackerman, John Berger, Julian Schnabel, James Benning Joachim-Ernst Berendt, Hugo Kükelhaus, John O. Stevens, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jürg Nänni and others.
